My family and I had the opportunity to sail out of NYC on the Disney Magic from Oct 15th through the 22nd. It was an amazing experience that included sailing past The Statue of Liberty, a day at Castaway Cay, a day in Walt Disney World, and 4.5 days at sea. Since this cruise was in October, the ship was transformed into a sailing Halloween Festival called Halloween on the High Seas. Each night had a different theme: Halloween, Pirate, Formal, Semi-Formal, and casual (x 2). Cruisers could decide how much they wanted to participate in each theme. If travelers wanted a very casual cruise, they could relax and wear shorts to dinner. If they wanted a more formal night, they could don tuxes and full length gowns. It was really nice to be able to choose a participation level.
Living within 2 hours of NYC made sailing even easier. Since we did not have to worry about flights, we could drive to the port on embarkment day. Sailing down the Hudson River made for some spectacular views.
